The Connie Company Opens Snow White Auditions

Audience applauding in the theater

Local actors and actresses ages 8 to 20 are invited to showcase their acting chops at the open auditions for the Connie Company production of “Snow White.” The two-day auditions will be held on November 13, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and on November 14, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Davidson Community Players’ Actor’s Lab located at 20700 N. Main Street in Cornelius, NC.

Preparing for the winter production

“Snow White” is currently in its pre-production stage. If you’re interested in auditioning, drop by the Actor’s Lab during any of the given dates and bring a copy of your most recent picture, together with your résumé and, if possible, a list of your theater experience and conflicts from December to January.

Aside from reading lines from the script, all actors and actresses auditioning are required to stay for the whole session, which also includes theater exercises. Successful auditionees will be called back on November 15, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Rehearsals for the “Snow White” winter production will begin in November and will continue through December. Performance dates are scheduled from January 19 to 28, 2018, at Armour Street Theater.

Snow White with a twist

The Connie Company’s winter production of “Snow White” tells the story of the classic fairy tale from a unique perspective. Instead of following Snow White’s adventures with the seven dwarves she meets, “Snow White” will follow the story of the Evil Queen, from her struggle to overcome her tragic childhood to her eventual quest for revenge.

Although the winter production will tell the villain’s story, audiences can still expect a family-friendly tale that will end with a happy-ever-after – after numerous twists, that is. This version of “Snow White,” which was written by Marjorie Sokoloff, will also feature a sassy Magic Mirror, and of course, the title character herself and her crew of seven dwarves.

About The Connie Company and Davidson Community Players

Davidson Community Players (DCP) is a non-profit based in Davidson, NC. It was founded by drama teacher Constance Welsh. Its first production, “Time of Harvest,” was an original play written by her husband, Wilmer Welsh, and was performed in July 1965 by students and town residents.

Since then, DCP has organized and performed many classic theater productions, such as “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” by Edward Albee and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” DCP also expanded its season from one to two plays every summer to a five-play season. This includes two productions in the summer, one in March, a show in October targeted for adults, and finally, a holiday show.

DCP’s theater division for the youth, which is The Connie Company, is named after Constance Welsh. DCP is currently led by Matthew Merrell, who was hired as the executive director of the organization in 2011.
