Craft beer lovers in and around Cornelius are getting ready to sample local brews at the 2017 Craft Beer Fall Fest on November 12. Hosted by Harvey’s Cornelius and Cornelius Drafthouse, this inaugural event will take place at Jetton Village Square, right across Harvey’s Cornelius.

Showcasing local craft beer and food

According to the host pubs, the Craft Beer Fall Fest will showcase brews from the best local craft breweries. The event will feature 12 craft beer breweries from the area as well as various food concessionaires, showcasing some of the best food and drink in the Lake Norman area.

The Craft Beer Fall Fest is open to the whole family. There will be plenty of entertainment, from lawn games and live music to bounce houses set up in various points across Jetton Village Square. Of course, only those of legal age are allowed to sample the best craft beer Lake Normal has to offer.

A partnership between two neighborhood pubs

The upcoming Craft Beer Fall Fest is brought about by a collaboration between two well-known neighborhood pubs in Cornelius: Harvey’s and Cornelius Drafthouse.

Harvey’s started out as a small pub in Huntersville, opened by Charlie Dyer and Luke Adams, both of whom are Appalachian State alumni. Harvey’s wasn’t their first foray in the restaurant industry. In 1997, the two worked at Hayden’s in Pineville. Both cultivated a passion for the industry, and out of their shared love to create a great dining experience for guests of all ages, Dyer and Adams joined forces and opened Harvey’s. This neighborhood pub gradually expanded to other areas, including Cornelius.

Dyer and Adams also incorporated their love for Appalachian State in every Harvey’s branch. It’s evident in all the school posters, memorabilia, and the uniforms they wear at Harvey’s. They also serve a special kind of craft beer called the Appalachian Ale, which is only available on Saturdays during football season.

While Dyer and Adams were clear on their vision, the owners of Cornelius Drafthouse weren’t always sure whether they wanted to be a neighborhood pub. Ideas of turning the establishment into a bar, a speakeasy, and a full-time restaurant floated around, until they finally decided on creating a drafthouse and bottle shop. When it came to designing the interiors, the owners turned to the community for suggestions, making Cornelius Drafthouse a true community effort.

Both Harvey’s Cornelius and Cornelius Drafthouse offer a wide range of craft beers, but you will also find more familiar beer names in Harvey’s selection.
