- In February, some of the best spots to catch fish in the area are the discharge channels at the McGuire Nuclear Station close to Huntersville, and the Marshall Steam Plant near Terrell.

- Every winter, the stripers, bass, catfish and white perch follow the threadfin shad into these waters, which the power generation process heats up. Early in the morning, you’ll find bass feeding on shad on the surface of these warm waters. Now and then you’ll also find hybrid striped bass doing the same.

- You can still catch fish on live bait and sub-surface artificial lures after they’re done surface feeding.

- When using a light tackle, consider casting small lures that can pass for baitfish one- to three-inch in size.

- The deep-water channels and sloughs that surround the islands that lead to McCrary and Ramsey creeks are the perfect spot for catching hybrids and bass.

- Live herring, shiners, and shad make excellent bait when fishing in these creeks. Casting lures like Alabama rigs and top-water plugs are also recommended for when seabirds start diving into the water.
- Some of the biggest schools of white perch and spotted bass in Lake Norman during the late winter can be found near the boat docks, marinas, and condos on the east shore of Ramsey Creek.
